We decided that we needed one last field trip before the boys headed back to school. I wanted to take the grand kids up to This Is The Place Heritage Park to show them what Aunt Becky and Lauren do as volunteers at the Brigham Young home. It worked out that the day we could go, Aunt Becky and Lauren were out of town. The village is very realistic, just like life in the days of the pioneers. They loved seeing all the people dressed in old time clothing, especially children their own ages. They especially liked the trips on the big train that took us all around the village.
At the old fashion school where the boys sat on one side and the girls on the other side, the kids wrote their "lessons" on slates and the teacher let them ring the bell...
Sam wrote his name in the old Deseret alphabet on his slate.
Other highlights were the petting zoo with pony rides,
the little train ride,
and the boys stamped designs in leather.
The grand kids all spent their hard earned money from the Draper Days lemonade stand at ZCMI Mercantile. We ate a picnic lunch in the Bowery and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It will for sure be a field trip for next summer!
Thanks for the field trip, Grandma. It is too bad Becky and Lauren weren't there that day. I thought it was a wonderful place to go. It is neat how they recreated the early Salt Lake streets. I think the kids really enjoyed it, and the older boys learned a few things too.
